Description

1.4404 (X2CrNiMo17-12-2) is one of the common corrosion-resistant stainless steels. Due to its molybdenum content, it offers a high degree of resistance against non-oxidising acids and halogenated media. It is easy to process and can be used at temperatures up to 550°C. It is also polishable and resistant to intergranular corrosion till 300°C.

This material data has been provided by Deutsche Edelstahlwerke Specialty Steel (DEW).

"Typical" values were obtained via a literature search. "Predicted" values were imputed via artificial intelligence technology. While we have placed significant efforts in ensuring data accuracy, "typical" and "predicted" data should be considered indicative and verified by appropriate material testing. Please do contact us if additional information on the the predicted data method is required.
All metrics apply to room temperature unless otherwise stated. SI units used unless otherwise stated.
Equivalent standards are similar to one or more standards provided by the supplier. Some equivalent standards may be stricter whereas others may be outside the bounds of the original standard.

Chemical Industry, Pharmaceutical Industry, Food Industry, Fittings, Construction, Ship Building & Marine Structures, Petrochemistry, Automotive, Decorative Applications, Kitchen Equipment, Electronics, Aerospace, Maritime

Cold Forming

It is suitable for cold forming according to DIN EN 10263-5.

Corrosion properties

Due to the molybdenum content has a higher corrosion resistance thatn Acidur 4301 and 4307 (specially in chloride mediums). Due to its low carbon content it is resistant against intergranular corrosion according to DIN EN 3651 part 2. PREN= 23.1-28.8

Heat Treatment

Solution annealing: 1020-1120°C (water, air) fast cooling

Hot forming

It is formable at 900-1200°C

Processing history

Solution Annealed

Welding

It is weldable with or without filler material (e.g. 1.4430). The interpass temperature should not exceed 200°C. Subsequent heat treatment is not require. The resistance to intergranular corrosion is not affected by welding according to DIN EN 3651 part 2.
