Description

AISI 4140 is a 1% chromium – molybdenum medium hardened general purpose high tensile steel – generally supplied hardened and tempered in the tensile range of 850 – 1000 MPa.

Application areas

AISI 4140 modified is a low alloy hardened and tempered steel suitable for the manufacture of oil and gas downhole tools used in production and completion processes. General Engineering applications include construction components exposed to heavy strain, such as shafts, gear, bolts etc. AISI 4140 can also be used in hardened condition as machine parts exposed to heavy wear.

Heat Treatment

Hardened at 850°C followed by water quenching. Tempering at min. 650°C, cooled in air.

Welding

Moderate, can be welded.
