Description

The alloy AlCu2,5Mg0,5 (see also AlCu2,5Mg0,5, material number 3.1124, Werkstoffleistungsblätter der Deutschen Luftfahrt WL 3.1124, part of 1 and part of 100, Ausgn. 12.87) belongs to the type of alloy Al-Cu-Mg, which found of the aluminum wrought machine materials as first in the technology use. Alloys of this type are cold and hot hardenable, reach thereby high mechanical strength and are relatively heat resistant even in the soft condition. In the cold-hardened condition this alloy reaches strength grades to maximally F 31 and lies lowest from the standardised AlCuMg materials. It is not in practice usual for reasons of the corrosion resistance worsening in the warm-hardened material condition. Even in the cold-hardened condition a surface protection is necessary. It is disadvantageous, that even the smallest mistake in heat treatment results in decreasing of strength as well as the bad ability for hot forming and difficult weldability of this alloy. Its particularly good splinter-giving workability is remarkable, whereby screws and rivets are suitable for joining elements. The alloy AlCu2,5Mg0,5 is only as wire in DIN 1790 part of 1 and part of 2 standardised, because there it is exclusively used as rivet material (DIN 59,675). Heat treatment for hardening: solution annealing: 475 to 505 °C, quenching in water cold ageing: 5 to 8 d at ambient temperature hot ageing: 16 to 24 h at 180 to 195 °C Application: Solid rivets
