Rigid Graphite POCO EDM-3
Description
The rigid graphite is a POCO graphite EDM-3 is an isotropic ultrafine grain graphite which offers high strength with outstanding wear and fine surface finish characteristics easily machined to thicknesses of 0.1mm or less.
With regard to crystalline structure, POCO graphite has a typical hexagonal structure. POCO graphites are also highly isotropic with respect to their structure and properties. The isotropy factor is between 0.97 and 1.03 with 1.00 being perfect. The high degree of isotropy makes POCO graphites useful in many applications where an anisotropic material would fail. It also allows for maximum utilization of material as machining orientation is of no importance.
The pore diameter of POCO’s graphites ranges from 0.2 microns nominal, to 2.0 microns nominal, for our various grades and densities. The open porosity ranges from 75% open to 95% open and the pores are generally spherical in shape.
POCO graphite is a high purity graphite of 99.95%. The rest 0.05% is corresponding to ash impurities. This ash or residual product generally results from natural contamination of the raw material used to produce graphite and may be introduced to a lesser extent during processing of the raw material or graphite products. This graphite can be purified more by simply heat treating to very high temperatures, usually in excess of 3000 °C in an inert atmosphere. This temperature will volatilize most heavy elements present.
