Description

AgCu3 has great significance for use in electrical engineering for contact materials (switching contacts) as well as for slip rings, collectors and commutators. It tends to oxidize at temperatures above 150 °C, so that the contact resistance of the material remains small only at low temperatures. Compared to fine silver and fine grain silver (AgNi0,15), it has higher hardness and strength, higher resistance to abrasion and abrasion, and less sweat at higher temperatures. The material is ductile, sulfur sensitive and non-oxidation resistant. It is machinable, roll-cladable and conditionally separable from the gas phase.
