Description

The platinum-iridium material PtIr10, also Pt10Ir, Pt90Ir10, for jewelery alloys Pt / Ir900 or Pt900 / Ir100 shows a very good corrosion behavior as well as good wear properties. He will u. a. for mains electrodes in gravimetry as well as for sliding contacts and switching contacts as well as for laboratory equipment or structural components such as B. satellite control nozzles that are mechanically stressed, thermally and corrosively heavily used. The mechanical, thermal and corrosive resistance increases with increasing iridium content. In an oxidizing atmosphere, increased weight loss occurs in platinum-iridium alloys. This material is widely used as a jewelry alloy for forming and machining. When used for sliding contacts, the platinum-iridium material shows very good corrosion behavior as well as good wear behavior. PtIr10, used for switches and relays for higher AC loads (currents over 300 mA at voltages over 12 V) with a long service life. Another field of application for this material is the use as a potentiometer alloy.
