Technological properties

---|---|---|
Application areas | Construction industry (especially tunnel and swimming pool construction), Chemical industry, Decorative purposes and kitchen equipment, Flue gas desulfurization plants, Ship building, Use in sea or brackish water, Medical and pharmaceutical industry | |
Cold Forming | It can be cold formed, as high forming energy is needed because of the work hardening effect. | |
Corrosion properties | Excellent - It is resistant against intergranular corrosion according to DIN EN ISO 365 part 1 and 2. Halogen rich media can cause pitting corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. In chloride medium and see water it can resist till 70°C as well as in sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid. | |
General machinability | Average - Because of the alloying elements it is hard to machine this alloy. The machining shoud be done using high-speed steels or hard metals. | |
Heat Treatment | Solution annealing: 1120-1180°C (water, air) fast cooling | |
Hot forming | It is formable at 950-1200°C | |
Polishing ability | Good | |
Welding | Good - It is weldable using known processes although it tends to hot crack formation. Welding without a filler is not recommended. As a welding filler duplex materials such as 1.4462 are recommended. Using welding fillers lead to the reduction of corrosion ressitance in the welding region. Nickel alloys are also another filler material that can be used but the interlayer temperature should not go over 150°C. |
