Description

Located in between cobalt and copper in the periodic table, nickel takes the best properties from the former and combines them with the best from the latter to make a metal that shows more structural resistance than iron with the corrosion resistance of copper and only slightly lower electrical and thermal conductivities. Like chromium, nickel is commonly used as a corrosion resistant coating on other metals. Nickel containing alloys have a wide range of properties such as high corrosion resistance, high heat resistance, tuneable magnetic and electric properties and more. After accounting for the many uses as catalysts in different chemical reactions, there's no doubt that nickel is a strong contender to the most versatile metal.
