Description

The aviation material TiCu2 is an alpha-titanium alloy that, while still possessing good formability and good weldability, shows better strength properties than the unalloyed titanium materials particularly at higher temperatures. The material is hardenable. The material shows high resistance to general corrosion, especially to crevice and stress cracking corrosion, and it is largely resistant to pitting. The material shows special resistance to oxidizing mediums. There exists resistance to nitric acid, chromic acid, sulphurous acid, alkali-lyes, ammonia, acetic acid, aqueous chlorides, moist chlorine gas, liquid hydrogen, limited corrosion-resistance to sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, oxalic acid and formic acid. The material is not resistant to fluorine, dry chlorine gas and red fuming nitric acid. Processing properties: Formability: good (in the annealed condition formability similar to that of 3.7034, cold forming is only possible to a limited extent) Weldability: good (chiefly electron-beam welding EB, tungsten inert-gs welding, resistance welding) Application: TiCu2 is applied in the form of sheets and strips and bars and forgings in the annealed as well as in the hardened condition. The material is chiefly applied for complex construction components, in the manufacturing of which forming or welding operations are necessary and which are operated at elevated temperatures. The application range goes up to about 350 °C. Typical construction components are engine casing components, hot-air ducts, bypass lines.
