Description

2.4668 (NiCr19NbMo) in the solution treated condition as per AMS 5662 and to the API 6A specification. AMS5662 is most suitable for heavy machining, forming or welding as it is in its most malleable state, whereas API 6A provides high strength while meeting the maximum hardness requirements of the NACE MR0175, MR0103 and ISO 15156-3 specifications for use in oil tools in corrosive environments. It shows the following features and properties:

  • Excellent tensile, fatigue, creep and rupture strengths across a wide temperature range from around -253ºC to 705ºC
  • Excellent oxidation resistance, up to temperatures of around 980ºC due to the high chromium content
  • Outstanding corrosion resistance in many environments including organic and inorganic acids, other than when strongly oxidising, hydrogen sulphide and sour gases
  • Especially resistant to chloride stress-corrosion cracking
  • Exceptional weldability

Offshore & marine: Fasteners, valves, choke stems, down-hole tooling, cryogenic storage tanks and pump bodies;Aerospace: Jet engine components, rocket motors and thrust reversers;Power generation: Nuclear reactor parts, gas turbine components, nuclear fuel element spacers, containment vessels and valves;Other: Hot extrusion tooling

    Cold Forming

It can be cold worked while in the solution treated condition due to its high elongation.

    Corrosion properties

    Excellent corrosion resistance

    General machinability

Readily machined in the solution treated condition but the material’s high strength and work-hardening characteristics should be taken into account.

    Hot forming

It can be hot worked between 985-1150°C.
