Description

Nickel with highest degree of purity with the following features:


  • Very low levels of carbon (20 ppm) and sulfur (2 ppm) which tend to segregate at grain boundries resulting in hot shortening
  • Cleanliness, absence of non-metallic inclusions as Al, Ti or Si oxides
  • Low electrical resistivity at 20°C

  • Low softening temperature (350°C)
  • Low recrystallization temperature (350°C)
  • Improved oxidation resistance: development of tightly adherent one-layer oxide scale instead of a two-layer costumary one, which tends to flake off due to mismatch in thermal expansion.

    Processing history

    Hpulcas has developed a process to manufacture high purity nickel plate, strip, band, wire and flatwire directly from full plate cathodes, avoiding melt metallurgy and powder technology. Cathode plates are produced by an electro-winning process resulting in fully dense nickel plates with a minimum of trace elements. This method achieves an initial purity of 99.98% nickel. The cathode plates are hot rolled from 12 to 15 mm down to about 6 mm in one pass. After cooling, the hot rolled sheets are leveled and the oxidized surface is removed by brushing. The sheets are then cut to a rectangle of constant width by a table shear. For the production of strip and Band, the sheets are beveled, frontally welded with a high purity nickel feed wire and coiled. The hot rolled coil is then cold rolled to the desired dimensions and mechanical properties through cold rolling and intirm annealing.
