Description

The platinum-iridium material PtIr30 (in the literature also: Pt30Ir or Pt70Ir30) is used as contact material for switching contacts (switches and relays for higher alternating current loads with a long service life) as well as for laboratory devices or structural components such as satellite control nozzles that are mechanically stressed, thermally and corrosively heavily used. The mechanical, thermal and corrosive resistance increases with increasing iridium content. In an oxidizing atmosphere, increased weight loss occurs in platinum-iridium alloys. Further fields of application for this material are the use as potentiometer alloy as well as for clamping bands. The material is ductile, corrosion-resistant, oxidation-resistant up to 1000°C, abrasion-resistant, hardenable and resistant to high temperatures. It is non-cutting and machinable machinable, roll-clad and conditionally deductible from the gas phase.

Related Standards

This material data has been provided by WIAM.

"Typical" values were obtained via a literature search. "Predicted" values were imputed via artificial intelligence technology. While we have placed significant efforts in ensuring data accuracy, "typical" and "predicted" data should be considered indicative and verified by appropriate material testing. Please do contact us if additional information on the the predicted data method is required.
All metrics apply to room temperature unless otherwise stated. SI units used unless otherwise stated.
Equivalent standards are similar to one or more standards provided by the supplier. Some equivalent standards may be stricter whereas others may be outside the bounds of the original standard.
