Description

The platinum-tungsten material PtW5, also Pt95W5 o Pt5W, for jewelery alloys Pt/W950 or Pt950/W50, is used as electrode material for spark plugs, as contact material for switch contacts (switches and relays for higher AC loads with long life like PtIr5, but for DC loads or AC loads with mains-synchronous switching instants). When switching DC circuits, PtW5 has the additional advantage of a small areal material migration from one to the other contact piece. They are particularly well-suited for switches and relays for DC loads or AC loads with line synchronous switching instants (currents in excess of 100mA at voltages greater than 12V) when long lifetimes are required. Another field of application for this material is the use as a potentiometer alloy. Furthermore, the material is used as platinum jewelry alloy for parts with high hardness, z. B. stamped rings, watch case use. The material is ductile, corrosion-resistant, oxidation-resistant up to 1100°C, abrasion-resistant and erosion-resistant. It is machinable, roll-cladable and conditionally deductible from the gas phase.

Related Standards

This material data has been provided by WIAM.

"Typical" values were obtained via a literature search. "Predicted" values were imputed via artificial intelligence technology. While we have placed significant efforts in ensuring data accuracy, "typical" and "predicted" data should be considered indicative and verified by appropriate material testing. Please do contact us if additional information on the the predicted data method is required.
All metrics apply to room temperature unless otherwise stated. SI units used unless otherwise stated.
Equivalent standards are similar to one or more standards provided by the supplier. Some equivalent standards may be stricter whereas others may be outside the bounds of the original standard.
