Description

NITRONIC® 50 is manganese alloyed austenitic stainless steel with improved corrosion resistance compared to 316L and 317L due to increased chromium content plus about twice the yield strength of the same at room temperature. Unlike many austenitic alloys, NITRONIC® 50 does not become magnetic when cold formed. NITRONIC® 50 Stainless has very good mechanical properties at both elevated and sub-zero temperatures.

Technological properties

Property
Application areas

The combination of corrosion resistance and mechanical strength is utilized in marine hardware, pump shafting, petrochemical, pulp & Equipment for the Paper Industry, Paper Industry, food processing and petroleum industries. Can also be used in “down hole” applications due to sulfide stress cracking resistance. NITRONIC® 50 in both the annealed and high-strength (hot rolled) conditions has been included in NACE Standard MR01-75/ ISO 15156-3 “Sulfide Stress Cracking Resistant Metallic Material for Oil Field Equipment,” at hardness levels up to HRc 35 maximum.

Corrosion properties

Field service experience have shown that NITRONIC® 50 stainless has excellent resistance to sulfide stress cracking in air conditions.

Heat Treatment

Annealed, for most applications, the 1066°C condition should be selected, as it provides a higher level of mechanical properties along with excellent corrosion resistance. A high strength version can also be supplied with min. yield at 585MPa.
