Equivalent Materials

This material data has been provided by Deutsche Edelstahlwerke Specialty Steel (DEW).

"Typical" values were obtained via a literature search. "Predicted" values were imputed via artificial intelligence technology. While we have placed significant efforts in ensuring data accuracy, "typical" and "predicted" data should be considered indicative and verified by appropriate material testing. Please do contact us if additional information on the the predicted data method is required.
All metrics apply to room temperature unless otherwise stated. SI units used unless otherwise stated.
Equivalent standards are similar to one or more standards provided by the supplier. Some equivalent standards may be stricter whereas others may be outside the bounds of the original standard.

Corrosion properties

The good combination of high corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties makes Acidur 4542 suitable for use in marine environments. In standing seawater, however, Acidur 4542 is susceptible to crevice corrosion. If application in standing seawater cannot be excluded, additional protection (e.g. painting) must be applied.

General machinability

Acidur 4542 can be machined in both the solution annealed and hardened condition. The machinability of Acidur 4542 depends on the hardness

Welding

To weld Acidur 4542, the condition of the base material must be taken into account. The copper is present in the material in a stable form and therefore does not promote hot cracking. In addition to setting optimum welding conditions, care must be taken to avoid undercuts or other welding defects that lead to the formation of a notch. After welding, the material must be solution annealed again within a very short time with subsequent ageing to prevent stress cracking.
